In a time marked by increasing economic hardship and widespread displacement caused by urban demolition exercises, Akurulo Agro-Tech Processing Park emerges as a beacon of hope and renewal. Conceived under the broader Akurulo Business City initiative, and implemented in partnership with the Centre for Maximum Eradication of Poverty and Illiteracy in Africa (CEMEPIA Africa) and the World Economic Power Chamber of Commerce (WEPCCOM), this visionary project is designed to address both humanitarian needs and economic revitalization.
The Park is not merely a development project—it is a socially driven economic transformation model aimed at empowering the displaced, economically marginalized, and low-income Nigerians through agro-industrial innovation.
The Problem Akurulo Seeks to Solve
Over the past decade, thousands of Nigerians have been displaced through mindless demolition exercises and development displacements, resulting in economic instability, homelessness, and broken livelihoods. The lack of coordinated resettlement plans or alternative economic opportunities has deepened poverty levels, especially among the urban poor and vulnerable groups.
Akurulo Agro-Tech Processing Park directly addresses this challenge by providing housing, economic empowerment, and integrated agro-industrial solutions to support displaced and underprivileged Nigerians in rebuilding their lives.
Objectives of Akurulo
- To provide free access to shops and residential units for two years to at least 5,000 displaced individuals and families, creating stability for personal and economic rebuilding.
- To establish a fully integrated agro-processing ecosystem that supports food production, value addition, packaging, and market access.
- To distribute €2,000 empowerment grants per beneficiary for small business startups, skills acquisition, or trade development.
- To create sustainable jobs, reduce rural-urban migration, and contribute to food security in Nigeria.
- To develop a replicable model for compassionate economic development in Africa.
